How to Take CBD
When it comes to plant-medicine, picking the correct dosage for your body means everything. No two bodies are alike so it's critical to find the right dose just for you (and it can change day to day). This is why tinctures are the perfect format for taking plant-medicine! The dropper allows you to be able to select your unique dose, more or less depending on your own body’s needs.
Here are a few basic elements to consider when trying to find the best dose for your bod. The first thing to consider is strength, not just mg but the type of extract. For instance, with CBD, some products contain full-spectrum hemp (like our tinctures) and some contain broad-spectrum. This will directly impact the strength of the CBD, meaning that 9.9 times (really, 10) out of 10 the full-spectrum product will be more impactful. We like to think of full spectrum as a rainbow, broad-spectrum as primary colors, and an isolate just as one single color. There’s quite a lot of research out there that points to isolates in particular not working as well compared to full spectrum extracts.

Below are a few other elements to consider:
- Are you new to CBD, adaptogens, or plant-medicine? Start slow. Some people react very strongly while others feel nothing. Its best to give your bod a chance to tell you what it needs. - Experimenting is key but apply controls. Examples: Time of day. Try things before food or after food. With caffeine or without caffeine.
- Find your flow and then try the routine for 7-14 days consistently. This will give you the best idea of short and longer-term results.
- When you can, choose full-spectrum (remember our rainbow analogy). To put it simply, you get more bang for your buck. Science says that THC and other cannabinoids like CBD, CBG, etc. are synergistic. Together, they’re better.
- With full-spectrum CBD, less can be more. A ‘normal’ dose of CBD is generally 10mg for every 100 lbs. This means if you are in fairly good health, of median age and have a low to moderate need. Be mindful though that this can vary based on body chemistry, health, activity level, stress level, frequency of use, and so on. Key Questions About Long Term Use of CBD
Talking about dosage and any plant-medicine that was once considered taboo, means answering a common question or two:
- Can I get addicted to CBD? The short answer is no. CBD is non-psychoactive so it cannot cause a chemical drug dependency. If you are taking CBD with high levels of THC, that’s a different story!
- Can I build up a resistance to CBD? CBD is a supremely unique cannabinoid that is very different than THC. When CBD enters the body, it does not bind directly with our receptors like THC. Instead, it interacts with receptors indirectly and can actually positively influence them, encouraging the production of endocannabinoids that are vital for maintaining homeostasis. Some research points to CBD actually having a reverse tolerance, meaning overtime we need the same amount or less, not more.
This may go without saying but when it comes to trying new plant-medicine, especially when cannabis is involved, it’s important to address and dispel any fear that you may have before diving in.
