Sleep & CBN (Cannabinol)

Did you know that more than a third of Americans suffer from insufficient sleep? And this isn’t a new problem.. rewind back to 2014 when the CDC officially declared sleep deprivation a national epidemic. Sleep = time for the body to repair itself. Without it, things go downhill quickly! Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, obesity and various other health issues.

So the question is - When sleep ain’t happening naturally, how can we help ourselves?

This is a question we set out to answer with our Good Night formula. How can we create a plant-based tincture that doesn’t disrupt our circadian rhythm or leave us feeling groggy the morning after?

The answer: CBN. CBN is a compound found in cannabis and we have found with our user testing that it is an incredibly effective sleep-aid when combined with CBD. CBN –an abbreviation of Cannabinol – comes from the oxidation and decomposition of THC, meaning that when THC is heated and exposed to air and time, it converts to CBN. CBN gets the gold star because it doesn’t mess with the serotonin receptors that create melatonin in your body and it is non-psychoactive. Fewer side effects, more natural sleep. And like other cannabinoids, CBN is anti-inflammatory just like CBD so helping your body heal as you rest. It’s a win/win situation.

With that said, we aren’t the only people riding the CBN train. One group of scientists that are currently studying CBN find the compound so effective that they predict it will eventually surpass the popularity of herbal sleep-aid, melatonin

So if you’re struggling to get your zzz’s or looking to kick the OTC pill-popping habit, giving CBN a go in our Good Night formula is the perfect way to test its power. Our Good Night tincture is a blend of CBN and other superpower herbs like Valerian root, Skullcap, and California poppy. We found that blending these herbs plus our key terpenes linalool and myrcene added to the sedative effect and left us feeling great (no groggy vibes) the next day.

Steep Hill Labs did a study where the results showed that 2.5-5 mg of CBN is equivalent to taking a pharmaceutical sedative (Valium) and that the effects were furthered with the addition of CBD. Although more research needs to be done in order to unequivocally prove the efficacy of this cannabinoid as a sleep aid. Our Good Night tincture has a light but effective .3 mg per 1 ml - the perfect amount to have you ready to SLEEP by the time you hit the sheets. And because it’s a tincture format, you can dose up or down depending on what’s right for you.

*As always, we recommend doing your research prior to taking our products. Especially if you are taking prescription medications, we recommend consulting with a doctor prior to trying new herbs.
